What Is Xtampza ER?
Xtampza ER is an extended release medication prescribed to patients to help manage severe pain. This prescription medication is only intended for regular, around-the-clock treatment and not for short-term, mild or breakthrough pain.
Just like with any new medication, Xtampza ER may cause side effects in some patients. Common side effects associated with Xtampza ER are nausea, headaches, constipation, somnolence, pruritus, vomiting, and dizziness. These common side effects do not require medical attention and should go away as the body adjusts to the medication over time. If they do dissipate or seem to worsen, let your doctor or pharmacist know.
The rare and potentially serious side effects associated with Xtampza ER may require medical attention. These include blurred vision, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dastroesophageal reflux disease, chills, fatigue, drug withdrawal syndrome, irritability edema, pyrezia, excoriation, decreased appetite, hyperglycemia, arthralgia, back pain, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, migraines, tremors, anziety, insomnia, cough, oropharynheal pain, hyperhidrosis, rash, hot flush, hypertension, increased heart rate, lethargy, memory impairment, poor-quality sleep, abnormal dreams, euphoric mood, restlessness, dyspnea, night sweats, serotonin syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, and adrogen deficiency.
Please note, these are not all of the potential side effects associated with Xtampza ER. If you believe you are experiencing a side effect from Xtampza ER that is not listed above, call your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the issue.
How Is Xtampza ER Used?
Xtampza ER is a medication that should only be recommended to patients as an alternative treatment when other opioid pain-relievers or immediate-release drugs have proven ineffective, intolerable, or otherwise inadequate at managing severe pain. This is an important consideration because taking opioid pain-relievers like Xtampza ER puts patients at risk for developing the psychological disease of addiction, a physical dependence, or customary misuse.
In addition, this medication should only be taken as directed by your doctor. Do not adjust a medication’s dosage levels or treatment schedule without first consulting your doctor.
Xtampza ER Addiction
Patients taking Xtampza ER responsibly are still at risk for developing a psychological addiction. Seek professional help as soon as possible if you believe someone in your life is misusing Xtampza ER. Signs which point to an Xtampza ER addiction include becoming obsessed with finding and taking Xtampza ER, losing interest in the hobbies you once found enjoyable, suffering significant financial losses through efforts to obtain Xtampza ER, and performing poorly or irregularly at school or work.
